There is a norm in the society which I would like to speak about. I write this article based on a trend among parents who think it is normal for them to expose their private parts to their children especially when they are still young. Most parents see nothing wrong with it.
There is a true life story of a young man who said he got into pornography and other sexual practices because he saw his mums nakedness from a young age. In his story he stated the mum didn’t know what he was going through all those years.
He was still struggling even after the mum stopped dressing in his presence. This is because she has already painted a wrong picture in his mind from childhood.
Abuse starts from the mind. It takes a wrong picture, words, and so on to initiate abuse and once it is not corrected on time, it will progress into other things and destroy the child.
This is the case of several others, some parents out of ignorance display sensitive body parts to their children. This is wrong as such parent is abusing the child. Biblically it is also not right, Reuben in the bible saw his step mums nakedness and was moved to commit adultery with his step mum. This made him end up with a curse Read Genesis 49:4.
Noah’s children also saw their fathers nakedness and one of them mocked him instead of covering it. He ended up with a curse as a result Read Genesis 9:21-29. It was his other brothers that came to cover their father.
In all these examples it is clear that it is wrong for parents to feel comfortable displaying their private parts to their children. Children should be taught to cover their private parts through example from the home.
